Does anyone know if there are any gluten free products available at Aldi or Lidl?

I have someone staying with celiac disease so I need to buy things like bread, pasta, snacks etc but I looked in tesco and the prices are extortionate!

If possible can you also list the price?

Thanks in advance

There are no specfic ranges, I have seen Gluten free rolls in Aldi but the products are really well labeled, my friend who has to eat gluten free likes their bratwurst as they are gluten free.
Wins for 2022: Hydratem8 Water bottle, diary, flowers, Good food show tickets, childrens books x3,
Thanks to all who post the comps & please let the comping fairy sprinkle dust on my entries!

What does the person normally eat and which shops do they buy their food from?

We eat very little stuff with gluten in since we started eating low-carb because we don't eat bread, etc, at all.

Well they are from abroad so they don't know our shops. Good for you that you are sticking with low carb but my guest is not cutting out carbs and has to cut gluten for medical reasons, so eats alternatives containing no gluten. So they still eat bread, pasta etc.

But its amazing how many things contain it. Who would have thought sausages and stock cubes contain it. And it totally takes out anything breaded or battered like fishfingers, breaded chicken, pies and lots of pre-prepared foods.
This is a total education for me. I really feel for you guys who have to think about this every day.:shocked:

There's gluten in a lot of ready made foods because of fillers that are used in them, if you have time, could you prepare some home made gluten free ready meals for some days and have them frozen, then you're not thinking about meal planning for the duration of the visit.

Check with your friend first if they actually *want* things like bread and pasta There is certainly a better choice of gluten-free stuff than there used to be some year ago, however not all of it tastes nice IMHO and it is indeed not cheap (you will find the prices are very similar in all the shops)

Both my mum and cousin are coeliac, and although I am apparently not I do try to seriously limit the amount of gluten I eat because it does cause me some issues (I can get away with eating something with gluten every now and then, but not pasta or bread)

The few times I get ready-made bread I buy Warburton Newburn Bakehouse - it's about £2.50; Genius bread is nice too but £3-ish
Pasta: Sainsbury's free from taste ok IMHO, can't remember the price though
For snacks and cakes, I've always baked anyway so I use Dove's Farm white gluten free flour instead - £1.70 They also do GF bread flour
For an occasional treat, the Village Bakery GF cakes are really nice (the orange and vanilla is lush; £3 from Waitrose)
Stock cubes: Kallo organic vegetable cubes are gluten free, possibly others too

Can't help with ready meals as I don't eat those anyway and cook from scratch. You just need to carefully read the labels on everything! Good luck :)

Edit: and do check Sainsbury's - last time I went all the GF stuff was on 4 for 3 offer
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail

Found gluten free bread at Aldi at a much cheaper price £1.50 instead of £2.50 at Tesco.

Thanks for your help everyone. Yes I already did all the asking etc. They definitely wanted bread/pasta etc But I will be trying to base meals around potatoes and rice but its just snack food and breakfasts that is the real problem.

Never found anything in Lidl and only one Aldi near to me stocks GF bread but supply is very hit & miss.

I don't bother with either store now, as I have to go to Asda / Tesco to get my GF stuff I just get the rest of my shopping there
