Hi everyone,
Been a fan of the site, but new to the forum, can someone explain where do I start with the debt free wannabee? There are so many threads didnt know where to go for "new user" and can someone explain all the jargon?
Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks!

Hello Liz and Welcome!
The best place to start is the thread called 'new to the forum' started by southernscouser - it's one of the 'stickies' at the top of the list when you look at the DFW forum page.
If you're looking for advice and support on getting out of debts, the best thing to do is post an SOA (all explained in southernscouser's post) and you will be bowled over by people wanting to help you cut outgoings and pay your debts off as fast as possible.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hi, and welcome to MSE. Perhaps you could start with posting your SOA - which is your statement of affairs ie a list of all incomings and outgoings (there is a sticky at the beginning of the DFW - debt free wannabe - board which has been posted by Southern Scouser...have a read through the post and it will explain how to put your statement of affairs together. Once you've posted this we can have a look at it and advise you how best to proceed.
Hope this helpsDebt £171000 - Current Debt £168883Between Oct 08 and Apr 09 Pay off £12k = £2117/£12000£2 Savings Pot = £80 -
welcome to mse and dfw 0 -
Hi Liz :hello:
See you have already been shown where to start so welcome to dfw.0 -
Welcome!
The best advice to start with is to do as others have said and post your Statement of Affairs (soa) which is explained in Southern Scousers 'sticky' thread for new users near the top of the board.
People can then help you both with moneysaving and with anything you don't understand.
Hope to hear from you shortly!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
The best thing I find is keeping a spending diary. When I know I have to document a spend ( even though it's only me reading it) it makes me think whether I really need it or not. I have a shopping budget and have a weekly amount that I can lift. I am trying not to spend all my weekly allowance though so I canpay any excess to my debts. HTH

Some good advice already.
When you are ready with your SOA, it may be worth going to "Advanced" on your reply and changing the title of your thread so that you indicate there is an SOA. That tends to draw people to the post.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Thanks to all for your advice! Will get my figures together asap for the soa, still working my head around the way a forum works! This is the first for that as well!!
And once I have gotten the soa together I will change the thread name to match accordingly
