Mortgage Application and Job Offer - stress

Hi,

I need some help on who to contact with my problem and when to.

We had our valuation done today, so we are moving nicely a long the application process, so far.

Anyway, I'm currently on a fixed term contract till December 2014, i've been working within the NHS since September 2014 and my contract was renewed in March. Previous to that i've had a 2 year continuous history with various fixed term contracts within mental health.

Anyone in my position (employment wise) will understand support services rely heavily on funding and there is very rarely a permanent job available. HOWEVER, I have been called up for an interview on Monday for a permanent post working in the mental health field of substance misuse. My salary would be £400 more then now.

I know i'm trying to plan for something that would not happen, BUT, if I was to be offered the job what do I do?

a) ask if I can accept the job offer after completion (which i doubt they will agree too)

b) go straight to my broker and say what?!

I'm already going to ask at interview if there is a probation period so at least I will have that knowledge. We are also lending with halifax. I have no intention of not telling the lender (well would I need too if option a is agreed too..?). I AM NOT TRYING TO BE DISHONEST. I'm not asking anyone to condone that, I just need some logical advice. My broker is away till Monday and I don't feel like waiting till then to face doom.

I would not accept the job if it meant I could not get the mortgage, as I am sure my contract will be extended in December.

Thank you.

When is your mortgage due to complete?

Chances are Halifax would be ok with it either way, but if you can complete before you (hopefully) get offered the job then it should not matter as you only have to disclose any material changes - if you have not started the new job/handed in your notice on your old job then nothing has changed.

Thank you for your quick response - i'm glad you responded, i've seen your helpful comments on other threads.

We haven't got a date, i'm afraid. It's all gone a bit quick with halifax. We only put the application in yesterday morning (full one along with all documentation) and had the valuation today. So i doubt it has been underwritten yet. So i'm assuming completion is still probably a good 6 weeks away (if we get the offer, that is).

I guess I will go the interview and deal with the outcome then. I wouldn't like to hand my notice in for a month anyway and would have to work 4 weeks. Still, I feel like I should tell them (at my own detriment, i know..!)

The legit answer is that you should inform the lender of any changes. I know most people however would probably not mention it.

If its still with the same company/NHS then I genuinely cant see it being an issue for halifax. Im not a massive user of halifax as I dont think they are particularly competitive but they can be quite flexible/lenient with things like this.

Sadly, not within NHS. It's a private company, which is also another reason why I am worried. I think i'll be best speaking to my broker on Monday to see what I need to panic about IF i get the job and whether it would be worth taking it. - Or would you recommend going directly to halifax and explaining my situation? Sorry to be in such a panic over something that may not happen and thanks again for response. Out of all the times i get a bloody interview!!!

Speak to your broker, thats what theyre being paid for.

Let them speak to halifax and go from there. They will have an account manager at halifax who is probably better trained than any customer service rep.

We got our mortgage offer today - is it okay for it to be that quick?! Haha. We did it Wednesday, got survey done yesterday and offered today.
I got the job for my interview, but they were offering 3k below the salary advertised. So I politely declined and will refrain from looking for further permanent work till after completion!
Though, halifax did say that if it is was for more money on a permanent basis they would only need to see my contract from new employer.
