Applying for Sky after mortgage offer

Hi

Just a quick question, may seem a bit daft. Ii'm based in Scotland, Today I received my mortgage offer from Halifax, date of entry is a week tomorrow so not long.

The dilemna I have is that some of the cashback sites are doing a great deal on Sky Digital and Broadband (half price for 6 months plus cashback), however I've read on these forums you should never enter into another credit agreement during the period I am at. Would doing this jeapordise the mortgage offer?

Cheers

    There is no definite answer.

But is it worth risking losing your mortgage just to save a few quid on sky?
Only you can answer that question.

As above avoid it as you don't want to risk your mortgage.

On my experian report though there was no mention of my sky account or related search when I set it up (6 months before mortgage app).

    Sky? The satellite broadcaster?

You're entering into a SERVICE contract, not a CREDIT one. This means it isn't CCA regulated, and will not affect your credit file unless you pay them erratically.

I can only speak from my experience. I, against the wisdom of this forum, set up a BT vision (tv, broadband, phone) account a week before completion on my current house (for installation a week after), and appeared on my credit report.
Didn't affect mortgage offer as another credit check was not performed prior to moving/release of funds.
But like others have said why risk it (I know I did but...)

There are lenders who get perturbed by home-movers signing up for new utilities etc shortly before completion? Really?

You had an ID check NOT a 'credit check' as you discovered it had no relevance to your mortgage application. Still some folk are scared of their own shadow!
