Letter from Akinika debt recovery - advice needed please!

Hello, a wee bit of background first off...

I was paying back an old student overdraft with the bank of Scotland, they then passed it to a debt recovery company, Iqor. They accepted £20 a month payments, and have done for over a year now.

Today I receive a letter from a company called Akinika saying the debt was passed from Bank of Scotland to them and that I have failed to reach an acceptable agreement with them as how to settle this debt.
They now want the full payment within 10 days!

I have never heard of this company Akinika, as far as I was aware the debt was with a company called Iqor, and an arrangement was in place. I have been paying my £20 every month and have never missed a payment.
I don't see how I have failed to reach an acceptable agreement with this company if I have never heard from them before?
Can someone please advice me on what to do next, should I phone them?

You should try and contact Igor regarding this, and see what they say. If they have handed your debt over there may be a reason you are unaware of. They should have the answers.

Akinika are just a new name for iQor.

Your debt has gone nowhere. It's the same company.

  • I'm having the same problem but can someone please tell me as long as im paying them monthly with no missed payment I don't legally have to pay them more than what I can afford? The debt left is just over £200 with £10 monthly payments so will be a while left to pay

Pay what YOU can afford, not what THEY tell you.

    What is the debt?
    How old is the debt?
    Is it on your CRA?
    Have you CCA'd them?

    Hi vickster

I recommend that you stick to your existing payments if they are manageable. If Akinika/iQor want to force the issue they'd have to go to court - I'd say it's very unlikely they would go to such trouble for a debt of £200.

There's no need for you to go contacting them as far as I can see. Just concentrate on sticking to your current repayment arrangement as stated above.

It is the same company, they are sending the letter to try and get you to pay in full, rather than monthly, but will prob say they will except a lower lump sum.

Me personally would phone rather than ignore but explain you can only afford to pay the £20 and nothing more.
