Married but single mortgage

Hi,

I am married with my own house (soley in my name) and my husband has a house and mortgage with his ex (they are both discharged bankrupts).

We have 2 young children and need to move to a bigger house. My husband is happy that the new house will be soley in my name and the mortgage too but when I said this to the mortgage broker they advised that as we are married we have to have it in joint names, is this correct or is there a way around this?

This isn't the greatest marriage and I have my finances set up so I am not trapped should he decide to walk out on us (which he has threatened many times).

I worry about these things so any advise you could give me would be greatly appreciated!

I have just had my mortgage offer today, I am married but we decided to just do it my name as my husband is semi retired and runs a small business with not enough accounts. We have a joint mortgage at present, the fact that i have down it alone has never been mentioned. Take the advice and change your broker
If i knew the answers to all the questions i wouldn't be on here :p

I can really only echo the above... It can be done.

Find a new broker and you should be fine. Not all lenders will do it, but some will.
