Bedding plants are those that are planted for a seasonal display, usually spring - summer - autumn and are not hardy.
For example begonia's, busy lizzies, geraniums, marigolds, petunia and one of my favourites rudbeckia.
Depending on the plant they can be planted into tubs, hanging baskets or simply into your flower beds.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Many thanks Better Days,
We are selling our house and I wanted to tidy up the garden and give the pots a bit of colour so this is great without having to spend too much money!

I'm tempted to order but I don't want to get dreaded begonias. What are people getting in their lucky dip?"fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0

That's interesting.
I love begonias and always put them in my tubs because they are pretty, outlast all other bedding plants and most importantly don't get eaten by slugs and snails;)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

These ones I'm not keen on, find them dull and a bit lacking:"fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -
I've ordered some. Thanks OP.
Has anyone taken delivery yet and can tell us what was in their mix?

Yes that's the ones - only I get some with the copper coloured leaves and always have an assortment of red, pink and white flowers.:)
It was such a mild winter that a few survived and all my geraniums did:T
But each to his own, it wouldn't do if we all liked the same.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -

from looking around the garden centres, the copper (or chocolate) coloured leaves seem to be more common than the green, I like them, nice sturdy slug-proof and long-lasting bedding plants. Mine this year are all chocolate leaved, are in a big pot with white bacopa, it looks good.

My 40 plug plants were delivered the other day. I missed out on the free lavender plants. I received geranium and gazania. Delighted with them. Very healthy plants unlike the plug plants I received with the daily mail offer ( still waiting for the Peonie, Magnolia etc Daily Mail offer). I also bought the BULB LUCKY DIP. Really pleased with them. Im a complete beginner so had to look up what the plants looked like as Im not familiar with some of the latin names. Seemed a good selection. My box included Dahlias, Gladiolus, crocosmia, Freesia, Canna, Begonia, Gloxinia & loads more0
