Right to privacy over past addiction query

Hi,

I'm looking for advice from any HR people or those of you responsible for managing people (or anyone else with any advice to offer!).

I have previously (years ago) had issues around addiction). I have never been asked about this when starting my job so I haven't lied and said no to something I should have said yes to ie: medical questionnaire etc but because now my boss has discovered I had these issues years ago I'm concerned how this will affect how I am managed and because he knows this about me can he treat me different to others who work there.

Can anyone advise if there are rules that affect confidentiality, need to know from their managers and if their suspicions/general nosiness were initially raised due to information in my CRB even though this was declared when I started working for the company are they right to ask me about it years after I started with the company.

Sorry to be vague but question is really around I was not asked to declare if I have ever had addiction problem in the past, I declared my convictions on application and CRB confirmed this and only now it has been discovered can they treat me different to other workers. My addiction was years ago and prior to starting this job.

Thank you.

    Thank you.
how long have you worked for them?

I'm honestly not sure if you have any protection against Addiction, if this lead to long term illnesses then the illnesses would most likely be protected under the equality act, but the cause (addiction) I don't think would be.

Someone else with more knowledge should be along.
