Hello, I'm contracted to work 9 months of the year in which I have to put in 400 hours. I started this contract in October where I work 16 hours a week for 25 weeks this includes working Mon - Thursday 5-8pm and Friday 6-10, however over this time there has been 7 Friday's where there has been no work and so I haven't been asked in to work. I have offered to come in over the year to make up this time but have never been ask, I have always worked the shift I have been told too. Now we coming to the last month and we coming to the 25 week I have to work but there is no work available so yet again I won't work 16 hours there. So with these 7 Friday and a whole week I owe 44 hours now they are trying to get me in the last month to make up these hours as I get paid every month the same amount as it already divided out each month. I think it's very unfair they have waited till the last month for me to catch up these hours as they could of had me through the day as it's a cafe in the university I just work the evening shift. Do you think I have right to argue as I understand I'm paid for these hours but when I signed the contract they said the work was there to cover these hours it is not my fault they have never asked me in to work. the only reason I argue is after the 10th June that would go into July wage not June's (which is the 9th month) so technically after the 10th I work I will work for free to owe these hours back? Thanks hope that makes sense as it's very hard to explain.

I think it depends what your contract says, I'm afraid (and I am no expert!) It does seem unfair if you have held yourself ready to work your allotted hours and the work hasn't been there, but on the other hand if you are contracted to work 400 hours then I imagine you have to do it!
No, I don't understand that you would be 'working for free' if you worked into July. What do you actually want to happen? (I doubt very much that the 'ideal' solution of them just saying you don't have to make the time up will happen.) What would you suggest should happen?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
If im contrated 9 months once im out of june if they want me to work they will have to pay as this is out of contract but does the 9 months end at the end of june or when the cut off point is at 10th june as this affects july wage. At the moment I have only been asked to come in on the four fridays in june these wont be enough hours to cover the amount owed anyway.0
