MoneySaving Poll: Euro elections 34% turnout - why didn't you vote?

Except your assumption that a spoiled ballot wouldn't count as "voter turnout" is incorrect.
Spoiled ballots are counted in the UK, and often used by voters to express discontent with the candidate options or the process (among other reasons), and as such they're tallied into the final total - though obviously no candidate benefits from them.
So people spoiling their ballots intentionally DID vote, and the poll is correct in its aims to find out the reasons for why non-voters chose not to vote - which is a worthy subject for a poll in my humble opinion.0 -
All over the world the 'people' want decentralized power and smaller countries. Yet all over the world the powers that be are forcing us into ever bigger countries, whether that's Russian expansion, Chinese expansion, trading blocks and common currencies or the petrodollar and FATCA.
Looking at films and media, people are encouraged to solve problems through violence. There's little in movies about macro social responsibilities - it's all micro, such as relationships. As such when we go to a polling station we start to feel angry - this isn't a coincidence.
People are told not to engage in power play. People are doing what they are told to do - Not voting.
So that's the first thing.
Next thing is of course that what we do doesn't make a bit of difference. But the thing is that this is blindingly obvious in recent years. As an example, we have Tony Blair as peace envoy to the middle east! Next, we keep getting politicians we thought we saw the back of then getting in as MEPs. Then of course we know a lot more these days about corruption thanks to various leaks and scandals - so that's become an every day thing now. I look at Bannana republics and I don't see much difference in total democratic power of the common person between there and here (!).
So:
1) Centralisation discordance
2) People are emotionally told not to vote, so we are not voting.
3) Corruption is clearer than ever.
I think for many it's difficult to walk into a polling station without feeling like a slap in the face.
All real progress is happening in tech and grassroots. Voting does make a difference. You just got to accept that it's rubbish and get over feeling so pathetic.
Chatting to a politician in a wealthier country he explained that while the position itself is pretty ineffectual (what can the PM do if the BoE don't agree?) - the position itself does give you exposure to meet new people and wield the old boy network.Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker0 -
I voted UKIP none of the others are listening.Nothing to see here, move along.0

Each party should come up with a list of main policies to put on ballot papers and then people voting should choose the policies they want out of the list. At least then people will do some research or vote for something rather than someone. Too many people have football fan mentality and vote for the same party all the time, because of history/family/friends/propaganda influencing them.
The vast majority don't vote because all they see is the colours blue/yellow/red/purple/green/grey...0 -

The majority want a tax increase for the lowest 88% of the workforce and a tax cut for the top 12%?
Really?
That's what UKIP are proposing with their flat rate of 31% tax for everyone. If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0
