P60 discrepancy
em_z
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place, so apologies if not. I've just received my P60 through the post and there seems to be a strange discrepancy between this year & last year. Nothing has changed but the 'total for year' has reduced by 2k. I haven't had a pay cut, in fact I had a small increment last August, so have no idea why this would be the case. Any ideas? Thanks.

Is the total less than the total shown on your final payslip of the tax year? Usually the difference between gross pay and taxable total is due to things like pension contributions that are deducted from the gross pay to get the taxable total - have you paid more into your pension in 2013-4 than in the previous year?0

Hmmm, not sure. I'll check on my payslip. Pension contributions have not increased this year though.0

April's payslip doesn't state my total pay for the year..0

Are you paid per calendar month or 13 x 4 week periods? It is possible that this year's P60 missed out on a salary payment due in the first few days of the new tax year i.e. did you receive a salary payment just after 5 April 14?Old dog but always delighted to learn new tricks!0

I'm paid on the 30th of each month. Last year's P60 is for exactly the same time period. The total for the year is before any deductions for tax, pension etc, so have no idea why there's a 2k difference.0

Did you get a bonus or anything last year that you've forgotten about? Taken any unpaid sickness leave this year or other absences?
The only sure fire way to figure it out is to wade through the individual payslips for both years and see what stands out. It's only 24 pieces of paper so shouldn't be too time consuming. If your payroll people are friendly you could just ask? I do our payroll and if someone came to me and asked about it, I'd happily spend 30 minutes investigating it for them.0 -
While I would agree that contacting payroll is likely to get the answer, if you don't want to do that then post figures for both years here:
March 2013 payslip
March 2014 payslip
2012-3 P60
2013-4 P600 -
Thanks all. Will have to dig last year's out.0
