Probably retired at 55........
........they all seemed to do it.
I know you mean well Atush but this style of comment really does give a false impression.
I am not a teacher but I do have sympathy for the way that their terms of service are often portrayed.
We all know that they get to retire at 60 on a 1/60th final salary scheme which comes with a huge cash free lump sum of 3 times their annual salary and that they can carry on drawing a salary if they want simply by doing a bit of part-time work.
Don't we?
Anybody who knows anything about the TPS will realise that what I have just said is absolute rubbish. It is Daily Mail journalism at its best.
As jem16 says, the NRA for teachers is now 65. It was 60 until 2006 and of course there are a lot of members remaining in the scheme on that basis. But they are on the 1/80th scheme not the current 1/60th so maybe they have to carry on working at something in order to afford to make all those trips from the airport to which you refer.
It is not so much the specifics however as the general impression that there is an army of ex-teachers who are raking it in and still making a fortune by working supply.
Sorry if that is your impression, I know that you are not intentionally trying to propagate a falsehood but somehow these misconceptions slowly impregnate our national psyche.0
