Provident Agents????

Hi all, I wasn't sure where to post this, so apologies if its in the wrong place. I hope its ok to asking questions on this here.
I am thinking of becoming a Provident Agent. I have an interview in a couple of weeks and from what they have told me they say they do some background checks on you. Now there's nothing majorly wrong with my background but I do have some debts from pay day loans that are now under control and in a debt management plan, will they do a credit check on me and is this likely to prevent me from getting the job?
Also I think they will be doing a check to see if I have any sort of criminal record etc. I think I do have some minor offences on my record from when I was around 16/17 years old which is 10 years ago now so will this affect me?
Just wondering if im going to go for an interview then face the disappointment of being turned down because of my background check.
Anyone have any ideas or any agents on here who know about this?

They will do a credit check, best to be upfront with them, but being an agent for them isa commission only job, any missed bills or debts wont bar you from working for them. You will also be self employed so need to register with hmrc.0

Me again! This displays on a nationwide Job site (you can guess what I am looking at this afternoon!)
Their question (re debt)
Do you have any CCJ ‘s (County Court Judgements)? Yes No
Doesn't say anything about C/R in the job advertisement so you'll have to ask directly I imagine
Anyway giving you a bump!0 -
Has anyone been to one of these interviews? What did it involve?0

Just a run of the mill interview really usual questions, there may also be questions about selling as a bit part of the job is canvassing.0

I did! yep me had a go in the end in my quest to try this line of work.. Really not sure if Provident are so accepting as their website does directly during first stage of application want to know about problems in the past and also I like that they don't hide the fact role is self employed
I liked less - had the nicest face2face interviewer going that I didn't want to consider a position in another area as turns out the position/area I thought I'd applied to wasn't actually available - seems they 'stock pile' people do the Provi.. least that was what I was told, should have known when the lady on telephone interview said she was having trouble locating the office that really meant there was likely no opportunity - didn't dawn on me, got into the room, was told the pro's and con's, they spent quite a bit of time interviewing and I could tell they didn't like asking what they had to when it came to it - yes they ask you to declare any past history financial and previous convictions both written and orally, (sorry) and the final conversation ended with we just have to run some checks...
This was 6 weeks ago
Still I remember leaving my bright and clean local Provi office with a smile, a bit of umpth, feeling strong and was hopeful - so a bit disappointed not to hear. Do they kind of treat borrowers in the same manner, I sincerely hope not?
A real plus was I was not asked to pay towards the DBS and didn't feel pressurised though I got the impression targets and the regulation was hard (I've had desperate care and sales work before now..) and well least I'm not paying Vanquis back through the Provident for past sins? lol! (previous debt) That did occur to me, ahh well they could have had me there!! ;)so fortunate escape who knows
You also have to have a 'smart phone' or similar if I recall correctly from the advertisement!! and I think you need to devote a lot of time to it - you fit around it not the other way round just the same as other jobs really for anyone else tempted0 -
Quite an old thread but if anyone is interested we've created a Provident Agents Forum over at providentagents .co.uk It's still in its early days but it is up and running !!! All input is welcome !!!0
