Change to Groupsave

Options
Just in case you hadn't noticed, Groupsave 4 has been abolished, and now Groupsave applies to any group of 3 to 9 passengers travelling together, and provides one third off.

How strange. GR3, GR4 and GR5 are still available on Scotrail, and indeed from the likes of ALO and DBL (the link you provided states it's just the E & G's). Each TOC obviously has their own promotions, but they still call it Groupsave which is pretty misleading.

Scotrail and EMT do their GroupSave as a separate ticket type, rather than as a discount.

The rail industry seems to delight in misleading and confusing customers.

Interesting. One wonders if both types of edb-glc/glq groupsaves would be valid on, for example, cross country trains..

now that's a right can of worms!

    How do you define "valid"?

XC will argue it's not valid, and will claim that the small-print T&Cs available online mean that the ticket is a train company specific ticket and only valid on Scotrail.

However the National Rail Conditions of Carriage says otherwise. Condition 10 states that tickets may be restricted to certain operators, but any such restriction will be "printed on the ticket".

The place where such restrictions appear is under 'Route' but no such restriction is printed, and the route is usually "Any permitted"

So what is needed is someone to refuse to pay (though they have to give their name & address if asked) and then let XC take them to court. Appoint a solicitor who is experienced in railway ticketing matters, and defend the case. I believe that XC would lose. Anyone up for it?

Their argument would be moot, restrictions on a scotrail GR3/4/5 state "any permitted" on the ticket, as you say... You could well argue that a Groupsave would be valid on an EC glc - edb service. Presumably the cash all goes into the rail settlement plan pot anyway?
