Venue in Greater Manchester

HI All

Me and O/H would like to get married (hopefully next year if we have sold our houses and bought 1 between us).

I have a huge family we are all close so I would like a venue big enough to hold around 100 guests for all day and 150 plus for the evening.

My brother and sister in laws wedding was great, she was married in a venue with different Barns, 1 for wedding, 1 for meal and then the night. She was able to take her own wine and pay corkage, and do her own buffett.
We will need to be quite thrifty but I can't seem to find anywhere similar (theirs was in Norfolk).

My Local church are not willing to marry us as o/h been married before (they did say if we attended church for a year, did a christianity course and had probing interviews with the vicar we may be able to, but I feel that is not what we want). Also our Local registry office is minging, and that's where he got married before so I dont want that:p

There are some lovely local places but they are all so expensive, I cannot seem to find anything my googling skills are poor.

Anyone help?

Mish

If you looking for a barn then there isn't much that I know of!

It really depends what part of Manchester you are based in. There are a number of venues - golf clubs, Northern tennis club etc around South Manchester that are reasonable for prices.

In Stretford there is Longfords - part of the athletics set up in Longford Park. It was built in the 1970s but has a very Scandanavian feel rather than 70s Britain. You can't do your own buffet there but their catering is extremely reasonable: 3 main dishes, with salad, bread & vegs accompaniment plus dessert for around £12 per head. (It does of course depend on your dishes).

The park is a beautiful location & easy reach to the motorways - 2 miles from M60. They don't do weddings there but Trafford Registery office is in a lovely building in Sale about 4 miles away.

Also thinking about Sale, part of the same building as the registery office is the Waterside arts complex. They rent out rooms but don't really tend to advertise it heavily.

    Hope some of this helps!

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply.

I don't really mind if it's a barn or not. I just want a nice look and feel. There will be loads of children of all ages attending so it would be good to have some open space.

To be honest we are quite flexable. My favourite place I have looked at is Pekforton Castle, but unless I win the lottery (not much chance as I never put money on it!!) we could never afford a venue like that.

I have searched this site for advice, and I know I am happy to get a second hand dress, have no cars, do wedding favours, flowers and invites and everything ourselves.

The thing that is most important to me is to have all my freinds and family together for a great day and I would like that to be in a venue that special. I might be asking too much though. It seems as soon as you say wedding they see a blank cheque.

We don't mind travelling and could put on a bus for the family, as long as it's say noo more than an hour away from Manchester.

    Hi MishMash

If you are prepared to spend more on the reception than on other parts of the wedding there are some lovely buildings that I know of, however, none are particularly cheap regarding catering ....

Heaton Hall owned by Manchester City Council is a stunning building but you have to use their caterers.

Another option is the Freemason's Hall in the City Centre. Lots of marble & grandeur inside & has 2 large suites which cater for 200 people. You can take your own wine there & pay corkage. Catering is really reasonable & excellent quality food - I've been to a wedding there & have ours booked there as well.

Don't be put off by the exterior photo as inside it is lovely.

I really can't think of any other places, as all the others are incredibly expensive or too small!

PS Try googling flixton house that may be worth a look...

I looked at Heaton Hall and is very expencive for what they do.

We are getting married at Boltons holiday inn, formally The Moat house hotel and having the cloisters room which is actually a converted church and is absolutly stunning!!

Its quite affordable compaired to others I have seen, for 70 day guests and 120 evening, on a Friday (you get a 20% discount) it will cost around 3.5k that includes a banquete as the main meal which is more expencive than the plated meals, a buffet for everyone, the middle drinks package (punch on arrival, 2 glasses of wine during the meal, sparking wine for toasts), plus the room hire for the wedding and then a supplement for the room for the evening.

I haven't been able to find a nice venue that allowed us to do our own buffet/wine ect. :(

Manchester town hall is stunning but we discounted that one because of lack of parking.

Hi, I got married in Stockport town hall and used our own caters and supplied our own drinks. The hall hire was £900 for the first and £150 for each additional hour (we hired it for 8 hours 4pm - 12am). The hall is very beautiful and also very flexible, providing numerous different packages. I recommend looking at their website: http://www.stockporttownhall.org.uk/weddings.asp

Never been, but Tabley House is owned by the University of Manchester and therefore might be subsidised a bit. Looks pretty anyway:

No idea how prices compare to other places though.

Flixton House IS lovely and will easily hold 150. You can do your own catering there as well. We held our reception at Urmston cricket club as we did all our own catering and they have a fantastic kitchen attatched to the suite. Their prices are very reasonable(hire of venue and bar) and if you get married in hte summer months there is always a cricket match on.The venue had full lenth windows which makes it very light and airy. Good luck with your search w esaw some real woofers before we hit lucky by finding the C.C.

May not be what you want, but Edgeley Park do wedding ceremonies & receptions (Sale Sharks rugby club & Stockport County's shared ground).
The food is very good, and the rooms are really nice - and you may get to see some hunky rugby players too!
