Underpayment from emplyer

Morning Everyone, Just looking for a bit of advice really.
My Wife has been paid by her work this morning and they have underpaid her by several hundred pounds.
Shes gone into work today and will be speaking with HR to get to the bottom of whats happened.
My question is...Does the employer have any legal or otherwise responsability to correct the underpayment asap or is it considerd acceptable to make the payment next month along with next months pay ?
