BR and Mortgage - Conflicting answers

Hi All,

I really hope you can help me.

Looking to get a mortgage with my BF, I was made BR in Oct 2007 and discharged in Apr 2008. Since then had a clean history, cleaned up my credit files and got the scores up to "Good" level.

Now we want to apply for a mortgage, I know that the BR is gone off of my credit reports, but I've read elsewhere on the forum that it stays on a register for 10 years and on another thread it says it stays on the register forever. Which is correct?

I'm worried that if we apply then we might get refused because of my past history. Our broker says that he can't really say either way whether it is a good idea for me to go on the mortgage as well as it depends on the lender.

Many Thanks

The solicitor's bankruptcy search will reveal any bankruptcy ever, but some lenders will ignore this if it's over six years after discharge.

You will have several options, best discussed with a broker and unless told otherwise, don't answer "no" to the "have you ever" question. If you do, the solicitor search result will be reported to the lender and may see you declined when they would have accepted if you'd been honest.

Its over 6 years, a lot of lenders will ignore it.
Even if it were less than 6 years there are lenders that would accept it.

Speak to a broker, but I dont think you will have any major issues assuming that is the only thing to overcome.
