Exchange date

We have a meeting with Solicitor next tuesday, we will be signing forms and also he has given us his bank details to transfer the deposit, stamp duty and solicitor fee's.

After this when do we agree a completion date?

Is 4-5 weeks a reasonable negotiation time to complete after we see solicitor?

I believe it is reasonable. We were aiming to complete and exchange all within two months. Sadly our mortgage just got rejected so will slow things down a bit.

I guess it depends on the rest of the chain if there is one.

The couple we are buying off will be moving into a empty house so can be done pretty quickly I guess, I just never knew what a reasonable time scale was. If we could be in by end of June that would be ideal for us.

It's hard to tell as everybody's situation's different. It'll depend on the dates you'd like and the dates the others would like.... and what they like might depend on what somebody else would like, or round some days off at work, or round a family holiday, or something random.

I'd usually expect an exchange within a week of being in and signing the papers..... and then a completion 2-3 weeks after that.

I'd said I wanted a week between exchange/completion. Friday came/went and nothing happened so on Monday I went about my business and got a random phone call mid afternoon asking if I'd like to exchange immediately and complete on the Friday (3.5 days away) and I said "yes".

Have you received the sale contract yet? Do you have a mortgage offer?
