how to live with a mole on my nose

Options
Hi
Here is a question. I have a mole on my nose and another one on my cheek. I never noticed them before but now they are realy bothering me. I am really shy to go meet new people as I think they think I am ugly. I do not have money to pay for private removal and NHS said they will not do it. I a really closing into my shell with it. So sad :-(. Any advice would be helpful.

I had a similar problem years ago, with a mole on my nose. I was very self-conscious about it and was teased at school. I was lucky, in that the NHS did remove it under local anaesthetic. That was about 20 years ago.

Try going back to your GP and explain how profoundly this is affecting you psychologically. Sometimes, it's not easy for people to understand how badly these things can dent a person inside.

Hope you get it sorted. Best wishes. x

I have moles everywhere, including my face, chest and arms, and could frankly use myself as a dot-to-dot puzzle. You say you never really noticed them before - what happened to draw your attention to them? A couple of moles don't make you ugly, and it sounds like you may have something else underlying this. Has someone made a comment that triggered deeper issues with your appearance?

If that is the case, then some form of counseling that improves your confidence and self-image might be more practical use than a surgery.

There isn't a square inch of me that doesn't have a mole or large freckle on it, with funnily enough the exception of my nose, but everything else is - my face and back are the worst, along with some enormous ones on my scalp that hairdressers always manage to find with a comb *wince*

I was offered removal for some of the larger or more noticeable ones on the NHS (many years ago) but they can leave a small scar sometimes, so I weighed up having a face full of moles or a face with moles and some scarring and decided to keep the moles.

You may be very aware of them but other people won't be. Just look around you and see how many people have them.

Your choices are keep the moles, or have them removed privately. But if having them is starting to affect your confidence or make you really sad, please speak to your GP again to see if there is anything they can do. But try to accept them - they are part of you, always have been, always will be. It doesn't change you, or make you ugly.
  • I have had moles on my face for as long as I can remember, I used to get teased at school! But now nobody even notices them!

Like someone above said, have a look around you and I guarantee nearly everybody has a mole somewhere! :)

I had one just below and to the side of my mouth, where people used to put a beauty spot. It was fine until it sprouted three stiff black hairs.

One of the male GPs said the NHS wouldn't remove it, but I saw a female GP and she referred me. The small scar is easily hidden by makeup.

Thanks everyone. I will go see GP. The problem is I split up with my partner and dint have anybody for a long time. I just see this vision that I meet someone, we will make live and they cover my face with a pillow.... and it is not just a self confidence issue it is almost a fobia :-(

Well, that just isn't going to happen. And if it did, that would be abuse. You need to speak to your GP about the psychological impact this is having on you.

Thank goodness, otherwise I would be! I too have a couple of moles on my nose, they used to bother me....when I was about eight! I remember having to write an essay at school around that time, to an imaginary penpal at school, describing myself so they could identify me at an airport. Having two moles on my nose was pretty high up on that list! My best friend at the time fell about laughing saying that no-one would be searching a busy airport for someone with two moles on their nose! From that day onwards I didn't think about them at all. Of course I know they are there, I just didn't see them, nor do I think other people that know me.

If you're really bothered a bit of make-up will do the trick.

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!
  • I think see your GP hon I think maybe the issue isn't the moles. Maybe it's your self esteem. Perhaps you might be a little bit depressed. Understandable after a breakup.

I'm covered in moles. I have a very prominent one on my face which I don't like, but I had a teeny one on my arm removed recently because it had changed so it was removed and sent for biopsy and the scar from that is about 3 times the size of the original mole so I def don't want them touching my face now. So love me love my moles is my philosophy.

Could you minimise with makeup if they are dark. Something like dermablend might help,
