My dad is quite tricky to buy for when it comes to birthdays, Christmas, and fathers day. With Fathers Day looming upon us soon I've been looking for something I can get him. Fathers Day I normally get him something little and a card and then his birthday is soon after.
I was looking online and found some great chocolate tool kits (like THIS ONE which I thought was pretty cool... or THIS ONE) but cannot seem to find any like it in the UK. I was thinking something like that could be a Fathers Day type gift.
As for his birthday I haven't even got a starting point. I normally try to buy him something a bit bigger for his birthday, but I really don't know what to get. He's quite boring (sorry dad!) in that he hasn't really got any hobbies that I can use as a starting point. He loves music, but already owns all his favourite stuff (most of it several times over on record, tape and CD!) and has all the various things to play music on from an old turntable to a modern surround sound thingy that plays digital stuff. He dabbles a little in cars and mechanics (hence the chocolate tools idea) but has several really good real tool kits already, and he doesn't do it so much lately anyway. He doesn't really drink, on the occasions he does it'll be a bottle of beer or something. He does like having pictures of his family, etc, but I've given him pictures in nice frames (photos and drawn) for the past two Christmases.
I have similar issues with my grandad (who also has a birthday coming up very soon). My grandad likes pottering about in his garden, but already owns lots of good gardening stuff. I couldn't buy him as good quality stuff on my budget.
I want to get them things they will actually like and appreciate, but they are both so difficult to buy for...
Does anyone have any ideas? Greatly appreciated!

I posted wanting help for my dads gifts not long ago. He suggested he would like an insect habitat for the garden, there are lots on amazon. You can get bee, butterfly, ladybird etc might be an idea for your grandad or dad0

I like the idea of those chocolate toolkits, if you think he might like any of the stuff on Firebox.com it may be worth looking at this, but not everyone would appreciate it: https://www.giftshuffle.co.uk/?pvid=402&se=dad0

Hi, for my dads birthday, I bought him a chocolate hammer from Shokolat http://schokolat.co.uk/. They do a large range of high quality chocolate realistic looking tools. When I gave my dad the hammer, he thought I had actually bought him a hammer
You probably could have hammered stuff in with it cause it was so heavy.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your help.
I'm going to have a proper look through the Firebox website and see what kinda things they have on there at the min - I'd actually forgotten about Firebox, it's been a while since I've been on there. Not sure about the mystery box idea - but it is pretty cool. I'll look at the website and have a think.
I love that schokolat website - I've only had chance to have a quick look as I'm about to head out for an appointment. Cherry24 - how does their stuff get delivered and how is it presented? Like, I'm guessing the hammer itself came in either cardboard or plastic packaging? If your dad thought it was a real hammer at first it must have been packaged like one too?Save in 2014 Challenge: #193 £4,197.70/£50000 -
Hi Ainat,
From what I remember (this was back in March) the item was packaged in plastic with a cardboard backing. I was impressed with the hammer and will definitely purchase again especially as they have added corkscrews to their range as these can be presented with other items to make a gift.
They aren't the cheapest but the hammer was life size, completely solid and very heavy. I think it was completely worth the price especially considering how realistic they look.0 -

I've had one of these before, they're amazing!0 -
How about a personalised mug? Surely he must drink tea or coffee?
Ooh even better a personalised pint glass - I got one for my Dad's 70th from the grandkids!
I bought mine on a site called Born Gifted
Hope this helps
