Looking for training/funding to train

Hi all

I am looking at doing my ITIL qualification (foundation level). The last bit of training I did was my degree so can anybody offer me any advice in terms of choosing from the many accredited companies to do the training with, and whether there might be any funding available for the training?

I am doing this privately rather than with my employer for various reasons.

Can't comment on the providers as there are so many; perhaps ask your HR department at work for a recommendation as others may have done it at your workplace.

Funding wise, as far as I know there isn't much available; you work so won't get means tested help, and you don't want to go through work so you have cut off any hope of funding.

If you really want it, you will have to save for fees.

I got funding for the ITIL Foundation via the National Careers Service. I was unemployed but it may be worth getting in touch with them to see if anything is available (it can depend on where you live).

As for the course, it probably doesn't make much difference who you do it with. I went for the cheapest provider and it was fine (I'd done my ISEB with them). Not sure if I'm allowed to say who it was with? The ITIL Foundation course mainly consists of memorising all the terms in the book... You could probably learn it in your own time and just do the exam if you were keen enough.

    Never heard of ITIL.
Clicked on one site as i'm looking for various short courses to do that could lead to a job.
Can get qualified in 3 days, apparently?!
Could I do it with just my GCSE's?

Although ITIL is a bit dated it is still useful and a lot of help desk/IT support roles mention it.

It is possible to do it over a few days however I would thoroughly check the providers credentials as the I done it via work and it was 5 hours per day for 5 days, exam on day 5.

PRINCE2 and Agile (I think it's called that) are also usefull to pad out your CV if you have few qualifications and looking towards IT type jobs.

Groupon usually has deals on a lot of these courses.
All that glitters is not gold.

You are unlikely to find funding as you are in work (so can't get fee remission or ESF Skills Support for Unemployment funding) and have a degree (rules out in work funding such as ESF Workplace Learning) I'm afraid. Contact your local FE College and find our what is available and get their advice on fees & funding.
