Without going into to much detail about how this came about.

Would a contract to work part time 21.90 hours a week be feasible?!!
It equates to 21 hours and 54 minutes over 3 days apparently!

Its leading to a loss of pay when going from a full time week of 36.5 hours which was an hour less on a Friday for the working week.. The system is averaging out over 5 days which is fine when full time but not if moving to 3 days a week of 7.5 = 22.5!!

You can't work .3 of an hour each day?!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Of course you can. It's 18 minutes.

(Plenty of people work 7h 24m per day to make a 37 hour week.

I'm contracted to work 36 hours per week at the moment which is 7 hours 12 minutes per day. I've previously done 7 hours 24 per day for a 37 hour week. It has never been a problem. You don't have to start/finish on the hour/half hour.

Your questions don't make much sense OP.

You work 7.5 hours Mon-Thursday and an hour less on a Friday. You don't work physically 7 hrs 18 minutes each day!

Erm, nothing stopping anyone working 5 equal days of 7 hrs 12 mins......

Yes but if you go to a 3 day week you are told 21.90 equates to 3 days at 7.50 it is not the same for a part time employee is it?!

In general there is no requirement pay everybody the same.

An employer can discriminate in any way they choose except for a handful of reasons prohibited by law.

One of those is that you can't treat a part time employee less favourably simply because they are part time.

I don't understand what you mean. No 21.9 is not the same as 22.5 - but why does it have to be the same??

What I'm trying yo say your CONTRACT is for a round number of hours this is a CONTRACT for an odd amount.

Which represents a loss of pay when pro rata.

There is nothing at all to say that a contract must be for a whole number of hours.

If you work the hours of your CONTRACT then you are paid for the hours - whether they are an odd number of hours or not. If you work fewer hours then you get less pay.

An employer doesn't have to offer a set number of hours in a contract and each member of staff can have different contracted hours if the employer chooses.

I'm also confused about what the problem is. My guess is this:

Where OP works, a full time contract is 36.5 hours per week, and that's what they're paid for. Full timers work 7.5 hours Monday to Thursday, and only 6.5 hours on Fridays.

If OP works part-time Monday to Wednesday, OP will actually be working 7.5 hours on each of those days - so a total of 22.5 hours per week. That's slightly more than 60% of a full time contract - that would only be 21.9 hours per week.

So, if OP is actually required to work 22.5 hours, and only paid for 21.9 hours, they have every right to be snarky. If OP is going home slightly earlier than everybody else (or if they go home early every fifth day), then there's no problem.

Alternatively, maybe OP's problem is that they've been offered a contract for 21.9 hours a week, but they want a contract for 22.5 hours a week (or the other way around). If that's the case, ask your employer if you can have something different.

Edit: crossposted with the OP, sorry. I think it matters what the part time people's contracts say - how many hours do the contracts say the people should be working?
