Hi folks
This is my first post, so hopefully I'm in the right spot. My husband and I are plagued with debt and I could write a book on the problems we have but my main concern at present is our credit rating. Despite having owned and lived in our house for nearly two years, I recently discovered that the previous owner is in debt to his eyeballs and has been having a lot of his post (ie: credit card statements, store card bills, etc) sent to our house. We've had two debt collection agencies contact us in the last week about him and I am now really worried that his debt and defaults are affecting our credit rating.
I've asked Equifax for a £2 report to see if that tells us anything, but is there anything else we can do? Can a previous resident's bad debt affect subsequent peoples credit rating?
Thanks!

Debt is associated with the person and not the address.
However, I would get copies from all three of the Credit Reference agencies just to make sure there is nothing incorrect on your records0 -
Hi
make sure that he is not still on the electoral roll at your house and if you find that your records are in any way associated with his (they should not be unless you have joint accounts), then you can put a note on your records to disassociate yourselves.
You could do with getting both your credit records from all three agencies. See martin's article on how to get these free of charge. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
