Virgin Mortgage - Consent to Let

We have a mortgage with Virgin Money and have done so for nearly 2 years. My husband has been posted to Cyprus for 3 years through the military and we move in August.
I spoke to Virgin about applying for a consent to let and they advised we should apply a month before we need it and that they charge a flat fee of £100 with no increase to the rate.
The fixed rate on our mortgage ends at the end of June and I wondered if we would be able to get a new rate before applying for the CtL or would this be a bit cheeky/go against out application to let?
The SV rate is less than we are currently on, but we are a bit apprehensive of the upcoming Independence vote etc so would like to fix for another couple of years if we can.
Any thoughts?

Shouldn't be issue. As your reasons for requesting CTL are fully justified.0

VM is one of the lenders which allows forces personnel to buy a property and let it on a residential mortgage, so it doesn't surprise me it has a more enlightened stances than others to consent to let in such circumstances.I am a mortgage broker.
