I guess it depends on the industry you're going into. What opportunitites are out there and how frequently do they come up?

I made the leap of faith from a staff job with a local authority to take a 3 month contract with an oil company as I had no experience in this industry and wanted to find a way in.

Same title, same tasks, much less workload, better environment to work in, easier people to work with and a 25% wage increase.

Then walked straight out of that contract into a 9 month one with a different company and another 25% pay rise.

Ultimately I know the contract could, in theory, be cancelled at any time (it wont) but I know that in this industry there's so much work out there that it shouldn't be a problem to find another.

If there wasn't that safety net I might have made a different decision when at the local authority.

    Thanks,

I suppose whats not going for me is that ill be £50 less better off, but with only working 37 weeks per year. I'm sure if I really needed to temp or something in that time, I could.

The industry is educational publishing in with a major university. Obviously not as transitional as oil and gas might be... I'm quite broke about what to do really.

Or do I do another bus dev/sales job where I don't know if it's going to be a good one or a bad one and take the stress of that on
