My mother and her friend both age 78 have booked to go to Blackpool from Liverpool on 17th June for 3 days, she insists they want to go by train....have checked prices and it comes back at £38.00....anyone know how to get discount for pensioners ?

Use a railcard - either senior (each) or two together (one between them)
But they would need to make other trips to recoup the cost of the railcard, so may not be worth buying it
They could probably do the journey for free on the bus with their bus passes - but there would be several changes0 -
It is 38 Pounds for the two of them so 19 Pounds each. As has been said it's not worth buying rail cards unless they are going to do more rail travel in the year. With a card it comes down to 12.60 each return.0
