gap in employment - mortgage pulled

Hi,
My wife and I have had an offer accepted on a house, we have a LTV of 81%.
We paid for and submitted a mortgage application to the coventry building society through a broker. Due to a mix up (clerical error with dates at brokers end), it wasn't noted that I had a gap in my employment history and the broker has pulled the application as he says it will be refused.
Does anyone know; whats the best thing to do in this situation? Could my wife get the mortgage in just her name? Are we looking at much worse rates now if we apply together?
Thank you.
