I am sure all sensible professional Landlords will have their tax affairs in order, and will have structured their holdings in such a way as to minimise any tax charge due.
Yup, and the idiots and chancers won't....just like any other area of business.
HMRC clearly think that there's something to be flushed out here it seems.0 -

I know the thought of HMRC comming after us horrible horrible housing providers gets alot of you salivating but the sad fact is most of us are legal and declare all of our income.
Sorry about that guys....0 -

If not you are just diverting housing from one user to another and taking a rake off.0 -

Don't take the bait, TheFactory.
This forum has been overwhelmed lately by a couple of anti-landlord extremists.
We all know the vast majority of landlords conduct their business above board, are ethical in business and declare all taxable income as they should.Don't blame me, I voted Remain.0 -

They are in fact anti anyone who is comfortably off and who has made something of their lives extremists.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Little work? Are you a landlord? Do you have any idea what its like? I presume not...
Housing provider? Yes of course I class myself as a housing provider, some tenants do not have the means to or are not interested in purchasing a house, do you want them to live in hotels? Should they go on their long local housing association waiting list?0 -

something of the order of 400,000 immigrants arrive in the UK each year
what is your proposal for places to live:-
-they should all immediately buy a property
-the state should provide them with subsidised property to Parker Morris standards in desirable areas
-camp in Hyde Park.
-compulsory billeting with people who hate small landlords.0 -

What like all those in the public sector who have cushy numbers or non-jobs protected by powerful trade unions ?No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

I had a landlord many years ago that insisted on rent in cash and refused to give a receipt. He was clearly dodgy so thete are some.
There will also be many who just close their eyes and don't think about tax. For better or worse, tax matters are kinda taken out of your hands in the UK (paye, tax on interest being deducted at source etc) so there will be some (many?) That just don't think about it, a sort of benign neglect. If they ignore it then there's no harm and nobody will ever know. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a lot of those. Haven't kept proper records, can't really account for incomings and outgoings. They're likely the target. Plenty of accidental landlords in that lot I suspect.0
