It also depends on whether your pension is level, or increases in line with inflation.

If it is level, a comfortable annuity in year one could be very uncomfortable by year ten.

Plus was that 15K for one person, or 15K each?

    30K might approach comfortable.

Indeed, that would be an entirely different story.

I'll be living on just the standard state pension

Well I admire you (and that is not a sarcastic comment).

I am frequently in awe of people who manage such things.

Well, I've never had a good salary so used to slumming it .... never had a job with a pension, not earned enough to pay into one - and 'advice' says that if you're not a higher rate taxpayer and employer doesn't pay in then there's not much point.

I do :) Beans are a staple of my diet, usually nuked... but I do love a spoon of cold beans just before I pop them into the microwave..... and/or as a salad item.

Excellent! So you'll be living your retirement in style. I mean how many of us can afford to have our own Jacuzzi ...

Start with your current income and decide what, if anything, you could bear to do without. Then add in the extra things you want to do now that you will have the time.
