"Any sane person should worry about what will happen when IR's rise"

Honestly, I'm not worried in the slightest about interest rates going up.
I think the insane are those who think we should be losing sleep about it.
It'll be fine.
Totally Agree.
It's this sort of thing that makes you realise that politicians are pretty ineffective in managing themselves, let alone govern the country.
It's certainly not a sign of good leadership.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.

A few of the more "right wing" leaflets have said that by stopping immigration there will be more houses to go round.
Other things being equal that's true isn't it ?No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

No, all other things being equal would mean that there was the same number of houses to go round. Building more houses would be required for there to be more houses to go round.If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.0 -

well, being picky, if all immigration was stopped then the number of properties required would go down due to the amount of emigration;
and of course we do actually build new properties - just not enoughEU tariff on agricultual product 12.2%

To be even more picky, I think some of the leaflets I have read refer to reducing the amount of immigrants, not just the amount of immigration.well, being picky, if all immigration was stopped then the number of properties required would go down due to the amount of emigration;

Quite. Neither of those things equate to all other things being equal though. Also, stemming demand is not the same as increasing supply, yet there is evidence that some equate the two and use it as a justification for exclusion.If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.0 -

if the aim is to provide better housing at cheaper cost to UK residents, then reducing demand is as effective as increasing supply.
if, of course, you have a wish to see the country coated in concrete then of course the two situations aren't comparable.EU tariff on agricultual product 12.2%

It would be interesting to know how many are built net rather than gross.
It takes quite a few houses to replace some hideous 1960s tower block that's just been blown up.
Flats in the Trellick Tower (one of the most hideous) are now fetching £400k and upwards.
It was rarely the places that were the problem, just the scum that were moved into them.0
