How to make my partner a co-owner of our house?

We bought a house a few months ago in Cheshire. Because the mortgage was in my name only, bank said she can't be on the paper work for the house. Even thou they knew the deposit was originally from her...
Any way the house is in my name but what should we do... and how... to make her a formal co-owner of the property. What is the best, the cheapest and the safest way to do it?
Thanks for your help!

Why did the bank say she can't be on the paperwork?
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

What has changed to suggest she could now be added to the mortgage/ownership?

Well... I think this the question to my bank... honestly I dont know... all they said is that because mortgage is in my name she can't be put as co-owner. To do so she would have to be on the mortgage as well but because mortgage offer was better without her income I took the mortgage...

Nothing changed. I dont want to add her to the mortgage, all we want is to add her to the ownership of the house. She paid deposit and we are both paying money into house refurbishment. This is our investment and we need to get it sorted in case of something happened to me, she would get nothing... we are not married btw...

Seriously the solicitor who was dealing with the house buy-sell deal was a nightmare and I dont want to hear about them... It took them over 14 weeks to get me the keys...

I don't know about the house ownership but why don't you make a will leaving her the house if something happened to you? It is important, as you know, that your gf gets her name on the house too as she is contributing a lot of money to it with no safeguards if you were to split up.

Speak to another solicitor if you want to protect your partners interest.

Haven't you written a will which leaves her the house?
  • Guys, if I would like to discuss this with solicitor I would have done it already and I would not be looking for advice on here.
To wirte a will is a solution but we want her on the documents as the same owner as I am... with the same rights and to be honest to avoid any Will thing in the future. So all we want is to be joint owners of the house :)
