Claiming back income tax

Hi.

I know this may sound like a silly question, but how do I claim back income tax? Is there a form to fill in? Or do I just call them (if I am lucky to get through!)
I was employed from April 2013 until October 2013, but been out of a job since.
My earnings between those months did not go over the personal allowance, does that mean I should get all tax paid refunded?
Sorry if its a silly question, never understood how the tax system works unfortunately.
Many thanks

You should get a rebate - they are usually done automatically, mine usually comes through in June.

Please be aware that if you have claimed certain benefits they are also taxable.

Might be worth a call to your local tax office if you want definitive answers.

Have you received JSA since you were last employed?

Hi, if all your earnings last year were below the personal allowance and you paid tax then yes you should get this back. You should get it back automatically sometime in the next couple of months but it can take a while. When I dealt with my own last year I was told September, it came and went and I'd heard nothing. So I had to chase and make them recalculate it to ensure I got my refund due to me. So it may be worth a phone call just to make sure that your refund is being processed.
