HI All
I've just watched Rick Stein's Food Heroes: Another Helping on BBC (it was put on instead of Coast, as Wimbledon overran). During the programme he visited Cirencester, and a woman who bred the happiest looking Gloucester Old Spot Pigs that I have ever seen. They were frolicking about like lambs, while she put their happiness down to their not being pushed.
Anyway, I failed to catch her name, or anything that would help me find her to see if I could buy Pork from her. I've looked on rick Stein's website, and the BBC website, which purport to list all producers, but she's not on there. They have one meat farm in Cirencester listed, and I don't think it's the right one. (For a start, there'e no mention of Gloucester Old Spots).
Anyway. If you have the "Another Helping" DVD, and you have nothing better to do, any chance you could skim through it and see if you can find out her name please? It was quite a long way through the programme, and definitely (I think, anyway) after he did a tour of Ludlow with some old bloke.
Thanks in anticipation

Hi
I'm living in Cirencester at the moment, so might be able to help! There are two farmers I can think of - there's the Chesterton Farm, who specialises in rare breeds, run by P.C. & R. Jenner (and who have a butchers shop on site), and the Organic Farm Shop (Abbey Home Farm), who raise their own cattle, pigs and sheep, run by Hilary Chester-Master.
There is also a specialist butcher in town (Jesse's), but I don't think they raise their own animals for slaughter.
Just found another farm - Butts Farm in South Cerney. Think these could be the people you're after? Website: http://thebuttsfarmshop.com/.
Hope this helps

Hi Ishtar, and thank you for taking the time to reply.
I don't think it's Chesterton as I've looked at their website and they mention numerous breeds but not GOS. Abbey Home Farm's website didn't really say anything about anything, so it could be that one. And It could be Butts Farm Shop, although the woman in the piccies doesn't look like the lady on the TV.
Thanks again for taking the time.
Hmm. Well, if no one has the DVD then I think I'll see if i can get it from the library.0 -

Hi Lil Me
Thanks for that. I spent quite a lot of time on Rick's website before I made my post. Unfortunately, despite what it says, not everyone in the "Another Helping" programme is actually listed. He spent some time going round Ludlow, and there were a number of shops that he visited which didn't come up when I did a search on the website.
But thank you again for taking the time to look for me.

Hi Dannahaz
Went to our local Country Show thingy at the weekend and picked up leaflets from the various storeholders (as you do!). Have a leaflet for the Butts Farm people and they are boasting they're a 'Rick Stein Food Hero' - looks like this could be the one...
Might take a wander down there over the weekend!

Thanks for that Ishtar. I wonder if they were in the original series, or in the "Another Helping" episode that I saw the other day (or both!). I didn't watch the original series, so I don't know if it was new people in the AH ep or some of the previous ones revisited.
If you do pop over there at the weekend then perhaps you could ask them?
Even if they're not, i'd be interested to know what you think of them once you've seen their place.
Thanks again.

Hi Ishtar
I bought the DVDs, and eventually found what I was looking for. The producer's name was Judy Hancox, and you are right: she's from Butt's Farm.
Seeing once more those little piglets gambolling around like lambs made the investment in the DVDs worthwhile. I'll definitely be buying pork from Judy.
Thanks again.

No worries! Glad you found who it was in the end. I didn't manage to get there this weekend as the weather wasn't too good (and the inlaws descended on us yesterday, so couldn't escape!).
Cheers
