Good idea, but won't work very well Imo

trip advisor works as you can get a good cross reference of opinions, there's not enough frequency of users to get an informed opinion on a property

A better idea would be a review system for letting agents

    Awful idea.

As Carl31 mentioned, there is not enough frequency to get a balanced view.
If a hotel or eating place gets a proportionate amount of bad reviews based on hundreds of reviews, you can maybe assume something's wrong.
It would take one single review from one single disgruntled renter to ruin a landlord's reputation.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

I find with Tripadvisor that you only get two points of view for the same place - terrible or great. Not much in between.

Finally, there is something in the arsenal of renters to fight back against callous landlordism and the like.

    I think it's a great idea.

I'd suggest landlords also start a similar website to review tenants. :)

Yes, but it's fairly easy to weed out the cranks and those with unreasonable expectations.

Same with Amazon etc with people writing rubbish like "I'd give x five stars, but I was out when the postman tried to deliver it and had to go to the post office to collect it, therefore I'm only giving it two" and similar irrelevancies.

I see both sides through the letting agent here. Often LL's and tenants only see an issue from their side of things. So for example a tenants idea of handing over a clean oven might not match the LL's and so arguments ensue.

A tenants child might hand on to the blinds and pull them down. The tenant may claim the LL needs to fix as they were insufficiently secure. The LL might claim she spend hours putting them up and the job was well done, and so it goes.

Similar dynamic as to when neighbours fall out over a hedge or something, both sides are certain they are the party in the right.

As such, online reviews could likely be very misleading.
