cancelled flight

Hi
Just a quick message and I totally understand if you can't reply, but I thought I might as well give it a go.
Basically, mum and dad's flight was cancelled after they actually boarded. Flight was supposed to fly at 11.35am, 5 hours later, sat on flight, and they have to get off....technical problems. They offered alternative flights from other UK airports which would of involved coach trips, an over night stay in a hotel before flying onto Waterford. My mum and dad didn't want this so they opted for the next direct flight available from Manchester to Waterford. ..which was two days after they should of originally flown.
I have been in contact with flybe re compensation, and they said they don't need to offer my parents any. They have however, offered them £75 each off a further flight with them.
What do you think and am I missing anything with regards to compensation?
Many thanks
Sharon
