E-On "We're Changing Your Tariff"

Received a letter from E-On stating that from the end of June, my meter is no longer supported and they would be ending my current tariff "EnergyPlan 6", This requires my meter to be exchanged, but the big consequence is that my bills will increase by around 28% (based on current usage). In addition, I lose the "No Gas" discount and the early payment discount. The new plan doesn't have the lower rate for my storage radiators and water heating. The gist of the letter seems to be that they cannot offer me a comparable service and suggests that I should change supplier.

I accept that energy rates rise (or fall sometimes), but this seems a bit much.

Anyone else received the same letter?

At least once they change the meter for you, you will then have a choice of supplier :)

You should be getting E7 especially with storage heaters. Sounds cheaper than E6 on the face of it, but I guess it all depends on the actual tariff prices.

Ensure you get a dual rate meter fitted, suitable for use with E7.

    Hi beverley123

Sounds as though you've a special complex type of meter. These are specifically designed for all electric properties with storage heaters and water immersion heaters.

Although the tariff is changing, your meter won't be affected. You'll continue to have a number of off peak hours where the electricity is charged at cheaper rates.

The number of off peak hours will depend on the region and the type of meter at the property.

The letters we're sending need to cover all possibilities. As a result, they'll give you the options open to you, including changing supplier or changing the meter.

Even though EnergyPlan6 is coming to an end, we'll move you on to our standard tariff unless you go for another option.

The No Mains Gas and Prompt Payment discounts are coming to an end though.

To benefit fully from the off peak rates, I'd make sure you're aware of when these times are active. Try to use as much electricity as possible during these times.

As well as cheaper electricity for heating/water heating, there'll also be a period where all usage is at the cheaper prices. Again, the duration and times will depend on your individual set up.

To find out the times, either give us a call or drop an email to the address in my Profile. I'll be happy to let you know.

Hope this makes things a bit clearer beverley123.

@Malc - I've already spoken to E-On and I'm going with the Economy 7 tariff so I'll see how it goes. In the past I've had problems with incorrect meter readings & billing, so I keep a close eye on my usage. The next problem is how to re-program the heaters and water boiler to suit the different on-off times (it's an old Smart Heat control which was in the house when I moved in).

    Cheers

Hope all goes well beverley and thanks for letting me know. It's appreciated.

With Economy 7, you'll have access to more tariffs, both with us and with the other suppliers, so will give you a few more options.
