Being overcharged in asda - not sure what just happened?

So I was overcharged in Asda which was about £1, went to their customer service desk, I have been given horrendous service and they made me feel as if I'm lying to get some money! Anyway, after I got my refund I here "thanks, bye" and no one mentioned to me that they are giving me £2 giftcard. So I did tell them I know the policy, the guy wasn't happy in fact he was even more rude than before... Anyways he got me to fill in my details, and then gave me a £2 giftcard AND £2 in cash. What's the cash for? Is this normal? Did anything change? Or they simply don't know their own policy? And also, can I complain about the service I received or does Asda not deal with complaints? Thanks!

I've always found the CS desk people in ASDA to be brilliant.
However, some managers are instructing their staff not to offer gift cards, because they have to account for each one. (Allegedly.)
I've also found ASDA head office CS people good, too. There's the usual contact form on their website. I'm sure that they'll be interested in this.
The CS desk person's OP number should be on the refund receipt. If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

When I have received terrible customer service in the past I've either asked to speak to the store manager there and then, or I've contact head office via phone or email. Both methods have always proved very successful, with apologies and recompense received and humble pie shared out between the offending staff members.0

DPJames - I think you have missed the point. Is Panda 7190 not asking whether anyone can explain why a £2 Gift Card and £2 cash refund was given?0

double the difference?
also I heard from a friend that works at asda that the £2 giftcard marks against that staff member. it's like a black mark against them so they are reluctant to do it.0 -
Tesco give double the difference. Asda as far as I know don't. I was overcharged last week in asda, I got the amount I was overcharged refunded back to my debit card and a gift card for £2, which I believe has been their policy for a long time.
Im not sure about the gift card being a black mark, what happened to me last week was that some items had been marked down on the shelf, but obviously hadnt been updated on the computer system, thats not anyone's fault, would have happened at any checkout.0 -
Thanks for the answers. So I wasn't supposed to be given £2 cash AND a gift card, just as I expected. I reckon the guy didn't know their own policy. Also I didn't think of speaking to the manager at that time, I was in rush to go home
Also the form online has got options to choose which are all about online orders - that's me accessing the website from my phone (Using desktop view) as I can't use my laptop. Anyway thank you everyone you've been very helpful190/1378 - 52 week money challenge 2016/17
