Could this be put on my credit file?

We have recently had a new kitchen fitted and theres some work needed to be completed.
Owing to this, we are witholding £500 from the balance owing, all other monies have been paid.
The company has tried to contact us to arrange to complete the fitting and get the £500 but its never been convenient for ourselves.
We have received a letter saying if we dont pay/arrange for the kitchen to be completed soon, he will pass on the £500 debt to a debt collectors.
FAIR ENOUGH. I dont have a problem with that. He's been awkward since we signed the sales agreement anyway, isnt that allways the case?
My question is, the kitchen was paid for in cash, so NO credit agreement was made with them.
If it is passed onto a debt collectors, could they register a bad debt on my credit file, even though no Credit agreement was entered into as although I would owe money, I wasnt given credit?
Should he be taking this to small claims court? Or can it goto a debt collectors but they cannot register anything on my CREDIT report?

I would guess (and it is only a guess) that he would do this through the small claims court. I would be fairly sure he is just trying to scare you into getting things sorted sooner rather than later.
Don't think he would pass it to a DCA, where would there be any benefit to him? Small claims would be the way forward should it get that far, which I am sure it won't from what you say.
