Mortgage application lost in post

Hi there,

My partner and I sent off our full mortgage application recorded delivery on saturday 30 June to Coventry BS, but they still havent received it. Ive tracked it online and still shows as undelivered. I know there was a postal strike on friday so there may have been a backlog but we also posted a form to our solicitors at the same time and they received it on tuesday.

Now im panicking cos we sent our original P60's and payslips (luckily we sent certified copies of passports and made uncertified copies of p60s and payslips). If i sent a new application, would Coventry accept copies of our P60's and payslips???!!

Our broker made the initial application online so hopefully the fixed rate product we applied for will be secured for a few months (at least I hope so!).
I will be speaking to our broker tomorrow to find out what to do, but im way too impatient to wait till then so can anyone please advise me on what to do?

Also if our post to Coventry has fallen in the wrong hands, should we inform our banks (my card details are on the form to pay for the application fee)?

I sent self-certified copies. Just write on the top "I certify this is acopy of the original document." and sign it.

I cant get my head around why your broker made you send these in.

When you do the online application, they send you a letter the following day with a prepaid envelope for broker to put copies of documents in.

Silvercar - i did ask the bank to certify the p60s but they said it wasnt necessary so will do as you suggested.

homer-j - When the broker first contacted me, he said i should ring him back when we had an offer accepted on a property. He did not ask me to send proof of income details, etc that other brokers, from previous experience, ask you to send before making a mortgage application. He took all our details over the phone.

The info the broker sent was a bit muddled, they sent a self-addressed envelope with their company address on it, but the cover letter said to send it direct to Coventry. They also included a cover letter from Coventry Intermediaries confirming the application, but the address to send it to on both letters had different PO Box numbers and post codes. Called Coventry to confirm and they said to just send it to the address on the Coventry cover sheet. Im gonna check at the local royal mail depot if the letter might still be there.

In the event that the form is lost, should i inform our banks because both our bank details are on there??

Its a difficult one - if u cancel your card and its stuck at a depot somewhere, you will have to resend another letter with fresh card details - which will take a week to come through.

If you dont and someone uses your card fraudulently then it could cost you more than an extra week in the application.

Your card details should have been given on the online and there should have been no need to provide on paper again. You should have just signed a customer declaration and dd mandate.

You shouldnt have to do anything here. Your broker should deal with copies and getting this resolved. Thats their job. Its why you use a broker.

Homer-j - For peace of mind, rather than cancelling our cards, i think we will just transfer everything but a small amount out of those accounts to our savings accounts for a short while until I know for sure that the form is definitely lost (it may be at the depot or might even be delivered next week), and then possibly cancel the cards.

dunstonh - i agree it would have been easier and less time consuming if our broker already had everything to hand and sent it off straight away, but i guess brokers work in different ways. I will be on the blower to him straight away tomorrow to get this sorted.
