In my opinion, Sats are more for the schools benefit than the childrens. The sooner Sats are abolished, the better.

    Totally agree.

Welsh Assembly Government have had official Reading tests and maths test brought back in. Last year was the first year and this year they added another maths test - reasoning. So children in Wales in Primary school from year 2 and in secondary school sit 3 tests, 1 reading and 2 maths.

The new reasoning maths test is a joke, ridiculous scenarios and contexts for children.

    :( What a backwards step.

My DD starts nursery in September and I'm beginning to think I'd rather homeschool. If we wanted english medium education for her I probably would anyway.

Got a few of these lying on the lounge floor.

The welsh assembly have recently been attacking homeschooling.

    But have had a knockback.

Would look for a link but I'm simultaneously playing online snooker.

I wouldn't describe it as an "attack", but I had heard about that.

Personally i disagree with term-time fines too, I think that if parents have so little respect for their childrens education that they will intentionally allow them to miss school, then the children should be automatically unenrolled, with no future school having an obligation to enroll them in future. Unfortunately this would have the biggest impact on the children who most need the education because their parents value it so little.

My sons school are taking the kids on an adventure holiday in June, he has some disabilities and finds the whole rope climbing/hiking/assault course thing to be to difficult, he doesn't want to go, but I am not allowed to take him out on holiday that week so he can do something fun too.

I wonder how you would feel if your son wasn't allowed to go on the adventure holiday because of his disabilities. I am sure that these will have been taken into consideration when he was invited to go by the school. Also, children with special needs will have someone responsible for them, extra help etc., not only from the school but these adventure holidays will have trained staff too. I taught in a special school for many years and it was normal to see how, with a positive, encouraging attitude, all pupils were able to develop their self-confidence and skills in some way. A lot can be gained from being away with their peers for a few days too.

Maybe you should have more of a chat with the school. Sometimes they will have video footage of previous trips so you can see for yourself. I am pretty sure they will have some sort of pre-trip meeting to share information like that with parents and carers.
