I have to say that I have a problem with the whole 'rebalancing' idea. It seems to be predicated on the idea that relative ups and downs between classes are down to random fluctuations rather than underlying fundamentals. The other side of the coin to the 'buying risk assets when they are cheap' argument is that you always end up selling the best performing assets to buy more of the poor ones. If the performance differences are due to fundamentals rather than fluctuations then it fails miserably.
