    Who is the lender?
    check their criteria online with regards to leases.

    Most say they would want there to be xx years left at the end of the mortgage. So the issue (if there is one) could potentially be resolved by you reducing the term of the mortgage.

    With all due respect it is irrelevant what your family say unless they are lending you the money.

    Which lender? How long are you taking the mortgage over?
