I get both options when using a USB device and always dither between the two. Does it matter which I choose?
Interestingly (for me at least) I sometimes get neither option. Anyway, which is the better option please?
Thanks

They are basically the same. The eject would do just that if you were using a CD to write to.

Safely Remove - if you're bothered about data being saved to the device
Eject or just yank it out if you’re not

What it's all about is to make sure any 'write' processes are finished before they get interrupted by removing the device. TBH I personally rarely bother with an eject as long as I'm sure there are no pending 'write's - your confidence to do this may vary of course!0

The default in Windows is that it's not necessary to use safely remove as writing to the cache is turned off by default. You can change it in device manager if you want.
That said, it's only a click away and not exactly a bad habit to get into...As nothing is infallible.

If you are concerned, and no message appears when you click the 'Remove' icon, just open <Computer (or Libraries)> - find the USB key and right click it. One of the choices will be <Eject>I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Not necessarily , if one of the background processes has not closed it , the main culprits are backup programs and antivirus suites, then neither of eject and safely remove appear, strangely enough format always seems to appearIf you are concerned, and no message appears when you click the 'Remove' icon, just open <Computer (or Libraries)> - find the USB key and right click it. Really? I always thought that both "safely remove" and "eject" unmounted the filesystem, but the latter also sent an "eject" signal to the drive.
It would be pretty daft if the OS let you eject a mounted filesystem with an un unsaved cache.0 -
Eject, is now the only option given on my machine and most of the other PC's I have access to. So if you have both it doesn't matter which you use.Really? I always thought that both "safely remove" and "eject" unmounted the filesystem, but the latter also sent an "eject" signal to the drive.

As Windows doesn't write to the cache by default, it doesn't really matter if you use it or not in theory. As I said before though, it doesn't hurt to get in the habit to be 100% sure.;)
All those spies who are building tension as the baddy approaches and they are stealing data onto a stick, would have major problems as they just yank the stick out at the last minute, if they had to go through the safely remove routine...:DDrinking Rum before 10am makes you
