Hi,
Just got back from lidl, I went to pay with my usual card a visa credit card and they said card invalid.
They said they don't take credit cards, but I have been using this card for years with them.
Has there been a new rule?
Mega embarasment as I didn't have any other cards on me

When you say "them" do you mean Lidl in general , or this specific branch ? Some branches only take debit cards , others take both debit & credit cards0 -
Thanks, I mean the same branch I've always been using.
That is a bit odd that some branches accept credit and others don't though0 -

AFAIK the Southend branch is one of the less enlightened. Still doesn't explain why your card was rejected on this one occasion - more likely to be a problem with the card itself, I would imagine.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

The fees that a store has to pay are less for a debit card transaction than for the same transaction paid by credit card.
I would imagine that the decision wether to accept credit cards or not would be dependent on how many sales they think they may lose if they dont accept them.0 -
If it's the same card as you've always used then I suspect its the card. I'd check with your bank.
Around here (Southern England) neither Aldi or Lidl take credit cards but I believe they do in Wales.
So it's cash or debit card only.0 -
My Lidl only takes debit cards and always has only taken debit cards.Pay off Debts by Christmas 2015 = DEBT FREE!0

It was just a problem with the chip in the card.
This lidl in south England says they do not accept credit cards, but actually they do.0 -
My Lidl has always not taken credit cards and also will not take the pre-paid ones, they have just had new card machines too, so it may also have contributed0

Lidl and Aldi accept credit cards in Scotland. Almost normal opening hours there as well.0

Isn't it a German thing? I was told it was due to the Germans not liking debt and do not tend to buy things on credit, so their supermarkets work the same.Total Debt in Feb 2015 - £6,052 | DEBT FREE 26/05/2017Swagbucks £200 Valued Opinions £100Dave Ramsey Baby Step 2 | Mr Money Mustache Addict0
