barclaycard rejected application (gf's)

Evening

i am trying to shed some light on why my gf was rejected. She applied and got accepted primarily then when they sent out with a letter asking for more information. The form was filled in and sent back to them.

Yesterday she received a letter saying after reviewing you details we can't process your request for CC. Reason stated was lack on credit history at current address. We have lived here over a year and she has opened a few current accounts within that time.

could anyone suggest why this would be as she has a cc that she pays off every month, never missed a payment. Would it be pointless calling them and seeing if they would change there mind? i have never been rejected for a credit card so unsure what the next step is?

thanks in advance
James

Companies like to see stability at the current address, i.e not moving around from house to house, this can be a red flag. You mention opening a few current accounts each one does a 'hard' search on your credit file. How many searches in the time at your current address?

You could always phone them up and ask if them to confirm the details were correctly input maybe.

You could try the soft search which doesn't leave a hard mark, with a bank such as nationwide unless you fully complete the application. See what APR and credit amount they would offer.
    -== CREDIT BUILD IN PROCESS 30% COMPLETE ==- :)
    Overdraft - £0 Used/£500 Limit
    Vanquis Card - £1000 Limit
    Aqua Card - £1200 Limit
    Barclaycard Platinum - £2500 Limit

    Credit Utilisation 11%/Savings - £1800

It sounds like she was rejected because of a lack on credit history at current address.

    Completely pointless calling them, imho.

She has checked and is on the electoral roll. She has recently checked two of the three credit firms. We get her to do the other after work. She has opened two current accounts one Halifax other tsb so there has been some history. When she filled in the pre Barclaycard checker thing she got 90/100 so was expecting her to be accepted. I might get her to call to see if anything was wrong info wise.

When did she open the current accounts? If it was within the last 12 months, they're probably concerned about her lack of real history and the fact that she'll have multiple credit searches on her report.

Has she not lived in the UK very long? Why did you open two current accounts and not just one?
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

She opened Halifax for the fiver and the tab to stick 2k in. She is planning on another tsb soon. She has liked in UK all her life. Both were opened in last 6-12 months. I guessed current accounts and cc searches are different as two seperate accounts.

Why does she need more than one current account if her credit isn't very good? To claim free fivers?

I'm not surprised that she's not getting approved if she's running around left and centre applying for credit.

Opening two current account in a year isn't bad surely. As it turns out she sent in her old passport so expired. I got her to call and they said its been cancelled and can't be opened back up. They also said not to apply for 6 months. Is it possible to get that application opened back up? Seems silly for something that can be sorted.

You could make a formal complaint and see if that would get it reopened but other than that, if they say they won't reopen you just need to find another company or wait the six months.

    Good luck

It is when the person has no other credit.

You made a mistake, granted it's a silly rule on their part, but I don't think they'll budge.
