how soon can you start to clean your file post BR?

Hi All,

Looking for some advice for a friend...They went BR on 09/05/2013 and are now discharged.

The Insolvency service register thingy shows automatic discharge as of 09/05/2014.

When is it a good time to start cleaning up their credit file? Is it too soon to start now?

Thanks in advance :)

We do say to start the credit file clean up to wait 2/3 months, you can do this earlier but the wait gives the CRA's chance to update details after AD.

This is a post I did the other day, hope this helps your friend.

Cleaning up your credit files, first obtain proof of your AD, see the following three options.

1.
If you can print off several copies from the insolvency service site showing your discharge status.

Search Insolvency Register - Click here

Don't forget to click on your surname to bring up full details. Your discharge status will remain on there for three months then disappear
or

2.
Email — > discharge.queries@insolvency.gsi.gov.uk and they will need

Your current and previous addresses
Date of Birth
National Insurance number
Bankruptcy Order number, from the Form 6.30. For example 210/2013 and the court you attended.

They will then supply in writing confirmation of discharge free of charge.
or

3.
you can pay £70 for the official certificate of discharge from the court where you went BR (in some cases depending if you are on benefits/low income you can have this for free as well).

-- >http://www.bis.gov.uk/insolvency/personal-insolvency/discharge#Willthecourtchargemeforacertificate
Will the court charge me for a certificate of discharge?
The court will charge a fee of £70 for issuing a certificate of discharge. Further copies will cost £5 each.
If you write to the office that dealt with your bankruptcy they will provide a letter confirming your date of discharge. There is no charge for this.
Then with your letter/proof of AD and a copy of your Bankruptcy order (Form 6.30) you can send them to the CRA's when you do your credit file clean up in 2/3 months time (you can do this earlier but give the CRA's another chance to update your details after your AD). You will find companies report to one of the CRAs rather than all three, that's why it's suggested that you get your credit files from all three of the CRAs to see what's held on there and make sure that:

- The default date is on or before your BR date.
- The current balance is marked as settled/satisfied in some way.

They are £2 each for your paper/online Statutory Reports.

You don't need to pay for one from callcredit if online as all you need to do is go to www.noddle.co.uk which is run by them and you can check your files for free, you can purchase a credit score from them if you want but if all you are looking to do is check the entries from your creditors then just do the free option.

You also don't need to pay for Experian or Equifax as both run a 30 day free trial (just cancel before the end of 30 days and pay nothing)

All I will say is don't wait as long as I did, 6 years 2 months before checking as I found LloydsTSB have cocked alsorts of things up and only showed my account as settled 4 years after I went BR, everyone else was fine, so now waiting for a response from Lloyds as sent them a letter about it all last week and raised disputes with all 3 agencies about the entries from them.
Life is like a game of Snakes & Ladders, i almost made it to the top but now i'm at the bottom again and its a very long ladder to the top. I had it all and now its gone
Well my 6 years are now up, now to start to rebuild my life again

Hi guys,

Can I just confirm one thing, do I send the proof of discharge and the form 6.30 to just the CRA or do I also need to send to each company that's mentioned on the credit report?

How long will it be before they update the data? I've noticed on my noddle account that some are marked as satisfied and others still showing as default.

Thanks.

Empty wallet's link above should have read www.noddle.co.uk

I suspect they were feeling peckish when they typed it ;)

If this is regards incorrect info showing on your credit file, you will need to write to the creditors data controllers in question, including your BR statement summary page (is this form 6.30, I cant remember its over 6 years ago for me now) and discharge letter and letter detailing the problems, you are supposed to give them 28 days to either act or write to you with their reason for not updating your file, not sure how quickly the CRA update the info.
You can raise a dispute with the CRA's if something is incorrect but they can't change anything without the say so of the creditor (they say they will also contact the creditors and can put a note on your account that says you are disputing an entry), which is wrong in my eyes as if you can supply your BR paperwork and discharge paperwork to the CRA's then they know that the default date should show as date of BR and date of settlement on the account should be your discharge date or before it.
