Lost Littlewoods Pension from 50/60 years ago

Just wondering if it is possible to get some advice for my dad who is 83. He was employed as a store manager at Littlewoods from about the age of 22 and contributed to their pension scheme for many years. To date he has not been able to track it down. It seems morally wrong that he has not received a single penny from this pension. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Suggest you start here.

However if your father was under the age of 26 when he left, it may be possible that there is no pension to track down and he may well have received a refund at the time.0 -
Chances are he didn't give them changes of address when he moved and they don't know where he is. Was it Littlewoods the clothing store, who still trade, or the bookmaker who don't. The later are part of shop direct now. You need to find out who are the trustees or adminstrators and they can help you.0

Your starting point would be for your father to contact the Littlewoods pension scheme:
The Littlewoods Pension Trust Limited
Skyways House,
Speke
Liverpool
L70 1AB
phone: 0844 292 2779
Most pension schemes will use track and trace services to find 'missing' pension members. Are you sure he is definitely entitled to a pension? What paperwork do you have that backs up the claim?0 -
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I spoke to my dad today to try and get a little more information. About 10 years ago he tried to track this pension down with the scheme and spoke to the pensions manager at Littlewoods. At the time it was very stressful for him and I do not wish him to have to go through the same stress again. He was told his policy was marked as "dead" which I think meant in their eyes it had been claimed, which it hasn't. My dad thinks or heard that it may have been the case that when someone left the company his pension and all his personal contributions went into the company pension "pot" to benefit those still employed. Do you think in the 10 years that has passed since he looked into it that things may have improved in terms of the simplicity and procedures and someone being able to deal with it on his behalf. I don't think we are talking about a huge sum of money, but it seems desperately unfair to me. Thanks0

Write the letter for him, get him to sign it. Then send it off (then no stress as he doens't have to talk to them). You can even use your address so he doesn't have to open it if that will cause stress.
What age was he when he left, and exactly how many years did he work there?0
