Does one days work reset JSA?.

Options
I have the chance of one (poss. more) days work this week. It would mean signing off JSA and then doing a rapid reclaim.

I am also due to start an MWA placement on Friday. Would signing-off then back on again affect this (i.e would the act of doing a rapid reclaim mean my JSA claim becomes a new claim and the the MWA becomes automatically cancelled).

I only ask as the MWA is as a maintanance assistant and would come in handy to get me on to a building site as a painter/handyman.

Nope, it will stay on your record how long you've claimed JSA/have worked and your advisor will automatically put you back on MWA. I can't see how you could go back on benefits after one day of working either as you need a valid reason of why you left your job. To say "oh it was only one days work so I signed off" wouldn't be a valid reason to sign off.

Also, why would you need to sign off for one days work?! Unless you are working over 16 hours per week you can stay on benefits as far as I am aware..

    Hope this helps x

You only must sign off if you work more than 16 hours a week.

The job is initially for 1 day but could extend to a week. Hence signing off. I'm not sure that the JC would be to happy about me staying signed-on and doing a weeks work.

Btw it is possible to start a job and for whatever reason end up back on the dole inside a week. I've known someone start work on a Monday and the firm to go bust on the following Wednesday.

Surely there must be a time limit between 1 claim closing and another starting that causes the new claim to be a new and fresh one rather than a continuation of the old one?.

I have just looked online for you and you have to sign off for 12 weeks for it to become a fresh claim.

You won't necessarily have to sign off. You should go for your 1 day and if you're kept on for the rest of the week, sign off at that point, once you know you're getting more than 16 hours. You can work up to 16 hours a week without signing off... You'll just need to declare the hours worked at your next signing and they will adjust the money you receive.

If you get more than 16 hours work, then sign off and do a rapid reclaim. There won't be a problem if you tell them it was just temporary work.

Sadly when you sign back on, your claim is not reset. It's all considered as the same claim and all your previous arrangements will continue.

daniellaoxox is right. At the start of the 13th week any new claim will not be linked to the old claim.

I wouldn't bother, for just one day. unless REALLY good money, to make up for loss of JSA, housing benefit etc.
