Could you reach in and turn the ignition before you get in the car or is it one of those where the clutch needs to be depressed?

My mum picked up her first asda c&c tonight but didn't sign for her shopping as they couldn't find the machine thing as the usual person who deals with it wasn't there.
Does anyone know if her shopping will show as collected at some stage?
    Thanks
