Help To Buy Question

Hi There,

Just looking for some advice on Help to Buy.

I currently have my own house with my name only on the mortgage that I am looking to sell and buy a new house using the help to buy scheme (again in my name only). My wife also has her own house which we rent out on a BTL mortgage with her name only on the mortgage. I've been told by one advisor that I can't do help to buy as my wife has her own property which i am associated with by marriage (even though I'm not on the mortgage), and told by another advisor that I can!? Does anyone know the truth??

Thanks....

Simon

Just because you are married, doesn't mean you are financially associated. Have you got any joint bank accounts etc.?

If not financially associated, I would imagine a HTB mortgage with you as the only applicant would be possible...

No you can't. Not if you are married and living together with a buy to let.

The government made it clear before the scheme came out when these concerns were raised about multiple properties and buy to let owned. However it wouldn't suprise me that people are abusing these rules and commiting fraud. The whole nasty thing should be scrapped.

You cannot own a property and buy one on HTB. The HTB Agent has to conduct checks before they issue ATP and ATE. It will come out.
